A new beginning?

In News by Clare Grove

As May Day arrives, it heralds new beginnings.  My father texted this morning to tell me he had heard his first cuckoo. As it is my turn to pen our blog, I wanted to write something upbeat and positive, something to herald this new month and potential opportunities, to wax lyrical about how brands and businesses might start to pick up after COVID. But as I type, it doesn’t feel right.

This week, team DRIVE sadly lost a dear friend and client with whom we worked for over six years. Her death at 29, a mother of a beautiful three year old, has left us all reeling.  She was the brightest star, the loveliest person; to write about how to pick up your marketing in a post-COVID world seems trite.

If this awful word in which we now find ourselves has taught us anything, surely it must be to treasure what we have and hold it close?

To treasure the time we have together, appreciate the tiniest of things –  the joy of the first cuckoo  –  and the greatest – of neighbourhoods and communities coming together to support those in need, to clap and cheer the medical teams and teachers and other keyworkers who are making so many sacrifices for us all.

Marketing can wait, work can wait, witty words and strategic thinking and clever planning can wait.
It will all still be here tomorrow.

For now, we reflect, and we give thanks for having Sophie Lyall in our lives, this stunning girl who livened up meetings, made training days a blast and nights out fabulous events to remember.

Cheers darling Soph – we will never forget you xxxx
